The powers of yoga are amazing. Not only can it calm you and soothe your worries, it can also make your body healthier. Even better, it drives your stress away.
Yoga is something that you can practice every day, even when you are away on vacation. And as far as yoga on vacation goes, you can always try joining a yoga retreat in tropical destinations like Costa Rica so that you can enjoy a mix of yoga with sun, sand and sea.
As you prepare for your yoga vacation, there are a number of yoga poses you can do while on holiday. Here are some of the best ones:
Sukhasana or Comfortable Seated Pose
Perhaps, this is the most relaxing of all yoga poses. Get into a cross-legged position that is as comfortable for you as possible. Proceed to rest both of your palms on your knees. Lengthen your spine as you inhale and allow yourself to practice breath awareness. Pay special attention to how your ribs contract and expand with every inhale and exhale. Stay in this pose for about two minutes.
You can do this pose on the beach while sitting on a mat or even on the sand. If that doesn’t feel comfortable for you, you can also opt to practice this inside your accommodation upon waking up.
Janu Sirasasana or One-legged Forward Bend
While sitting firmly on the floor with your legs fully extended in front of you, bend the right knee and open your hip while bringing the sole of your right foot into your inner left thigh. Allow the right knee to go down towards the ground, supporting it with a blanket, block, or cushion if it does not comfortably rest on the floor.
Inhale and proceed to lengthen your spine. And as you exhale, bend forward from the pelvis while keeping both your neck and spine long. Place your hands on either side of your left leg. Gaze at your left foot’s big toe and focus on your breathing. Repeat this pose on the other side.
Tadasana or Mountain Pose
To do this pose, simply stand with your inside edges of your feet together, or if more comfortable, with your feet hip width apart. Ground down through all four corners of your feet while lifting through your inner and outer arches at the same time. Keep your palms facing forward, and your shoulder blades resting on your back. Inhale and feel yourself grow stronger and at the same time, more calm. You will also be able to feel your body grow taller with each breath, as if you are rooting into the earth through your feet while lifting up to the sky through the top of your head.
